Working Group 1

WG1) Network: state of the art of the optical sampling networks, protocol definition

In order to build up a diffuse European spectral sampling network, European scientists currently working in the optical sampling of fluxes are invited to participate to the COST meetings. WG 1 is also elaborating  a list regarding the optical sampling activities carried out within the different research teams (Both European and non-European).

 Deliverables:

i) Review of the nature and quality of existing optical measurements in Europe, its geographical distribution and different ecosystems involved (grasslands, forest types, croplands)

ii) Detailed list of a European optical measurements sites, instrumentation, measurement protocols

iii) Enlargement of the European network, data sharing policies development, synthesis of data storage and accessibility

iii) Assessment of the added value of optical data from the perspective of different user communities (remote sensing  scientists, radiation modellers, biogeochemical modellers)

iv) Recommendations for increased harmonisation, including a minimal standard  instrumentation to be installed in the observation sites
