Working Group 2

WG2) Intercomparison: Instrument characterisation, standardisation, intercalibration and measurement protocol issues:

Methodological comparisons: for each of the available instrument methodologies, a variety of reflectance datasets will be collected over the same, realistic target.

Inter site comparisons: a proximal spectral measurements will be collected at the different sites using the same protocol design.

Inter instrument comparisons: collaborative field campaigns will be promoted, using different instruments at the same site.

Delivrables:

i) Review of the different methods used to calculate reflectance and measurement protocols within the existing optical sampling network

ii) Assessment of the site-specific issues related to optical sampling measurements performed in different sites, using the same protocols

iii) Report on strengths and limitations of the different instruments, related to data reliability, comparability, instrument cost, spectral resolution, calibration issues

iv) Preparation of a protocol for refining spectral calibrations of spectrometer data using spectroradiometric irradiance measurements and irradiance spectra obtained from high resolution atmospheric radiative transfer code

v) Quantification of the standard uncertainties associated with different spectral measurement scenarios
