Working Group 3

WG3) New instruments: new instruments development

Standard instruments for continuous data collection will be tested during the Action to check their potentialities. Available commercial instruments will be analysed to determine their potentialities and the possibility of enhancing them for the specific objectives of the Action network.

Delivrables:

i) Review on the useful wavelengths/bands to be investigated, according to the recent literature

ii) Definition of a common measurement methodology and metadata protocol

iii) Definition of a standard for the bands/wavelengths to be used for ecosystem measurements

iv) Review on the role of the ground data in satellite validation activities

v) Assessment of the reliability and performances of different instruments (new and commercial) and of the reliability and performances needed from the spectral community

vi) Recommendations on the optical measurements standard to be maintained at European flux monitoring sites (or in other optical measurement sites), distinguishing between essential, preferred, ideal set of optical observations
